Picture of the Day: Santa Cruz Birds Watching

California Summer 2008

This picture I took at Santa Cruz Beach in California. I'm always amused by the reverse perspective - instead of us bird watching, it seems as if the birds are watching us (in this case the surfers).

Lately pictures have been popping up in my picture frame that I've forgotten about, and absolutely love - I guess it's the kind of thing that good pictures memories become better over time. I'm going to start posting the pictures that make me pause, and writing a bit about them on flickr under the picture, in another attempt to tap into my Daily Fotolog, which never really took off. You can see my reborn daily Fotolog here:

The picture here was taken on my trip to the Dominican Republic, with Angela, Bruce, Mark, and Ari. It was the first trip that Angela and I took together. I was nervous about it, but it was an incredible trip, everyone had a great time, and she held her own on a very male-driven trip with non-stop sports and little beach relaxation. Here Bruce and Angela are in the back of a bus taking us to a catamaran trip early in the morning.

Cliff Jumping and Mayan Ruins in Mexico

This weekend Angela and I went out to Riviera Maya Mexico for a quick vacation - originally I was expecting to spend the entire time on the beach, relaxing at the resort, and the first day we did that; but then the following day we went out to see Chizen Itza, the main pyramid of the Mayan Ruins that is now on the list of the 7 wonders of the world.

Afterward we visited an underground cenote, and took twenty foot jumps off a side cliff into the water - by far my highest jump to date - I can't say for sure how much higher I'd be willing to do, but I was definitely pumped up and I'd like to say I'll try out something higher next time.

Back from Florence Italy

I'm finally back from all of my vacations - this last to Florence.  The trip itself was fantastic and I well documented it.  I have to thank Melissa, Emily, Katie, and others who gave me such thorough advice on what to do and where to eat, all of which lead me to having a great experience.  In return for their time I've written an extensive itinerary on Yahoo! Travel so I can contribute on my own to other people's future journeys.  You can check out the photo album here, or see the slide show.

Back from Barcelona

I'm back from Barcelona for a few days to have Thanksgiving with my family before I turn around and leave for Florence.  Barcelona was incredible, probably one of my favorite cities - the food, the way the city is run, the people, the atmosphere, the attitude - I could easily see enjoying a month there instead of a few nights.  Above links to my whole picture album, and here is a direct link to the slide show.

Planning a Boston Trip With Yahoo! Travel

I was planning a trip to Boston last weekend and I decided to give Yahoo! Travel a shot - I was looking to plan a trip covering the highlights of the whole Boston / Cambridge for someone who had never seen any of the city at all. Yahoo! Travel it turns out makes things very easy - you can view top rated restaurants, hotels, events, entertainment, and more. You can view other people's trip itineraries. And anywhere you see something you like, it's a simple click to ad to your own itinerary. Then you can easily schedule when you want to do something, view all locations on maps, get print outs of location and description of all trip elements, driving directions, and more. Afterwards, you can import pictures directly from your Flickr account. Yahoo! Travel shows the value of social media, so much so that I came home and added the restuarants and events I went to that weren't in the tool yet because of how many benefits I got out of using it. I will definitely look here to start when planning my next trip.
